Shatranj Ke Khilari
In 1856 Awadh, two noblemen spend their days absorbed in chess while the British tighten control around Lucknow. Domestic complaints and official notices pass them by as a ruler faces annexation. The story crosscuts between drawing rooms, game boards, and corridors of power, holding short of any single moral but keeping focus on distraction and loss.
