Struck by moving images abroad, Dhundiraj Phalke decides to make a feature film in Bombay. He learns the craft from scratch—casting, sets, financing, even persuading men to play women on screen. Friends, family, and curious onlookers join the improvisation. The story stops before the wider legacy, staying with the scrappy birth of a first production.
