Charulata
In 1870s Calcutta, Charu, an intelligent woman in a reform-minded household, feels stifled while her newspaper-running husband, Bhupati, is absorbed in politics and work. When Bhupati’s cousin Amal visits, he encourages Charu to write and read seriously. Shared interests and long afternoons reshape the rhythms of the home. The story follows reading sessions, walks, and small invitations that bring out Charu’s talent and private longings, stopping short of any decisive rupture.
